Eeep!  What could be better than an adorable couple, a gorgeous location and the (second) Cutest Dog in the Universe?  I had a total blast photographing Jenn and Jonathan and their sweet Corgi, Bear, last week.

For the photo geeks out there, I am still loving my new Nikon gear.  I feel like I can finally make the images that float around in my head, without the equipment holding me back.

I have a TON of images to share, so grab a cup of tea and enjoy :)

To Jenn and Jonathan and Bear: Thank you for a wonderful afternoon!  I appreciate your openness to try anything and your awesome sense of adventure!

delightfully,
Chenin

I received an email from Valerie, who met with me in 2005 when her and Bobby were getting married. She explained that, although she didn't hire Boutwell Studio for their wedding, she has never forgotten how much she enjoyed my photography.  So what better way to celebrate their anniversary, than a portrait session with their new doggie? I was thrilled to oblige!

To Valerie and Bobby:  Happy Anniversary!

Chenin

Hey all!  My dear friends, The Wedding Chicks, are holding a little contest to decide who will design and style the next StyleLab Workshop on May 11, 2010.  After pouring over some really amazing ideas and inspiration boards, we've narrowed it down to three talented designers.  Please hop on over and vote for your favorite!

stylelab_stylist.jpg

To photographers: We still have a few openings for my May 11th workshop and would love to see you there.  I know there are a ton of choices when it comes to OC workshops, but I assure you that no other workshop offers what we've got to give!  At my workshops I promise:

-no nonsense answers to your questions; no B.S. and no ego
-in-depth discussions about identifying your style and developing a brand
-a hands-on shoot, styled by a high-end designer, including models, a gorgeous gown, and amazing details (oh, and did I mention you are welcome to use the images however you like?)
-experienced answers to your questions, from a gal who *actually* shoots weddings for a living
-small class size, good food and a friendly environment

Hope to see you there and head on over to the Wedding Chicks to vote!

delightfully,
Chenin

Last weekend I kicked off the wedding season with a lovely (and wet!) wedding.  Heidi had such an amazing outlook on the day, even given the inclement weather, and I was so thrilled that she agreed that a rainy wedding is, indeed, as cozy and romantic as it gets.

(side note to photographers: you can BET I was thrilled to have my trusty, weather-sealed d700s to capture this event!  It was so nice to forget about the stress of equipment and just capture the day!)

To Heidi and Michael: Thanks for sharing such a beautiful day with me!  Enjoy your honeymoon!

delightfully,
Chenin

I am finally back from an epic time at WPPI.  I met new friends, rekindled old connections and was completely humbled at the number of you who stopped me in the halls to say hello.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this gal feel extra special. :)

Before leaving for Las Vegas, I shot a lovely wedding in Palos Verdes, CA for the super-nice Heidi and Michael.  I will, of course, have a full post in a couple of days, but I've been sitting on this image for close to a week now and wanted to share it with you all.

Can I just say that I am in L-O-V-E with my new Nikon gear?  The only thing I don't love is how long it took me to make the switch.  I dragged my proverbial ass for some time, namely because perspective control lenses (aka, tilt shifts) have been a part of my work for years and, until recently, Nikon didn't offer any.  Enter the PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED ...

Eep!  This lens is sharp as heck, a dream to use (bye-bye sticky Canon TS-E!) and the coating is gorgeous!  Looks like I'll be saving up for this beauty next.

I will post more of Heidi & Michael's Palos Verdes wedding next week!

delightfully,
Chenin

Matthew Saville said: The only bummer about Nikon and manual focus for me so far has been that the focus points don't light up indivudually when in focus on a MF lens, there's just that light in the lower left corner. It's helpful enough though, with the arrows that direct you. And the sharpness is worth it. ;-) If you're cool with manual focus, Chenin, you should pick up an old-school 35 1.4 or 50 1.2. Both amazingly sharp, and as exotically unknown as a PCE / TCE... :-) =Matt= (03.12.10 @ 01:37 PM)

Paul Von Rieter - Newport Beach Wedding Photographer said: Girl you know how the rock that 45mm goodness like a goddess! I love the shot and that lens is amazing. Just wait until you get your hands on the 24mm 1.4, it is going to BLOW your mind. I am still trying to recover from the with-drawls I am going through after having to give it back to Nikon. =( ...thankfully the word is one will be showing up on my door step soon. I also shoot Nikon and can't wait to see more primes enter their lineup (I'm patient since I have some saving up to do!). Great photos - glad to see you're loving the gear! (03.23.10 @ 01:11 PM)
