I am finally back from an epic time at WPPI.  I met new friends, rekindled old connections and was completely humbled at the number of you who stopped me in the halls to say hello.  Thank you, thank you, thank you for making this gal feel extra special. :)

Before leaving for Las Vegas, I shot a lovely wedding in Palos Verdes, CA for the super-nice Heidi and Michael.  I will, of course, have a full post in a couple of days, but I've been sitting on this image for close to a week now and wanted to share it with you all.

Can I just say that I am in L-O-V-E with my new Nikon gear?  The only thing I don't love is how long it took me to make the switch.  I dragged my proverbial ass for some time, namely because perspective control lenses (aka, tilt shifts) have been a part of my work for years and, until recently, Nikon didn't offer any.  Enter the PC-E Micro NIKKOR 45mm f/2.8D ED ...

Eep!  This lens is sharp as heck, a dream to use (bye-bye sticky Canon TS-E!) and the coating is gorgeous!  Looks like I'll be saving up for this beauty next.

I will post more of Heidi & Michael's Palos Verdes wedding next week!

delightfully,
Chenin

Matthew Saville said: The only bummer about Nikon and manual focus for me so far has been that the focus points don't light up indivudually when in focus on a MF lens, there's just that light in the lower left corner. It's helpful enough though, with the arrows that direct you. And the sharpness is worth it. ;-) If you're cool with manual focus, Chenin, you should pick up an old-school 35 1.4 or 50 1.2. Both amazingly sharp, and as exotically unknown as a PCE / TCE... :-) =Matt= (03.12.10 @ 01:37 PM)

Just wait until you get your hands on the 24mm 1.4, it is going to BLOW your mind. I am still trying to recover from the with-drawls I am going through after having to give it back to Nikon. =( ...thankfully the word is one will be showing up on my door step soon. (03.13.10 @ 09:43 PM)

I also shoot Nikon and can't wait to see more primes enter their lineup (I'm patient since I have some saving up to do!). Great photos - glad to see you're loving the gear! (03.23.10 @ 01:11 PM)
Last weekend I traveled to The Valley Club in Montecito, CA near Santa Barbara to photograph Katherine and Andrew's lovely wedding.  It was perfect weather, a lovely couple and the details were flawlessly executed by Kary of Kary H Events. Katherine wore a Monique Lhuillier gown and Christian Louboutin heels. Florals were provided by the wonderful Kreestol with Sonny Alexander Flowers.  The gorgeous cake was done by Vanilla Bakeshop, with a fabulous late-night dessert bar provided by My Sweet and Saucy Shop. Here some favorite photos from Katherine and Andrew's beautiful Santa Barbara wedding -

Last week, I headed to Old Town Orange, CA to shoot an engagement session for the lovely Julie and Bill, who are having their wedding at Terranea Resort later this year. When Julie emailed me and asked if I could incorporate their darling dog, Bruce, and Bill's super-sexy Ducati motorcycle, I was pretty excited.  I have to say, I have never been one for cars or motorcycles, but Bill's Ducati was beautiful! Of course, Julie and Bill aren't bad either...

A fun shot with Brucie (I love when couples ask me to include their dogs in their engagement sessions) -

I couldn't decide which of these photos I liked best, so here's all three! -

One more with the bike -

And a couple more portraits of Julie and Bill -

To Julie and Bill (and Bruce) - Thank for a lovely afternoon and the delicious lemonade :)

delightfully,
Chenin

Danielle and Tommy booked me well over a year ago and I've been looking forward to their big day since then.  They are such a sweet and genuine couple and, best of all, they were committed to having a wedding that reflected their personalities and culture.  I absolutely loved the opportunity to shoot at the Monterey Buddhist Temple and their laid-back reception was icing on the cake.  But best of all, Danielle had incredible style and a knack for crafting - two of my favorite things :)

Check out these sweet little details (Danielle made her hair piece, on the left) -

I knew it would be a beautiful wedding when I received this gorgeous handmade invite in the mail (Danielle painted and silk-screened these by hand!) -

And (wait for it....) THE DRESS! I was over-the-moon-excited to see that Danielle had done a little dress modification and included part of her Japanese Obi with her dress -

The it was off to the Buddhist Temple to shoot their lovely ceremony -

A sweet little moment right after the ceremony -

Some portraits -

There were so many cute, handmade details at this wedding! I loved these little banners that Danielle made to guide guests to the reception -

Danielle and Tommy turned an unused room in to an art gallery, complete with family photos hung gallery-style and arts and crafts projects for the kids -

Treats and favors -

Check out this sweet cake-topper that Danielle made (the bride even has a little bow on the back of her dress!) -

This lovely event happened with the help of...
Heidi Hughett - Couture Celebrations
Kim England - Fleurs de Soleil

To Danielle and Tommy: Thanks for a lovely day! What a beautiful celebration!

delightfully,
Chenin

Carl and Lauren are an awesome couple and I felt so lucky to photograph their wedding this past weekend at the Point Vicente Interpretive Center in Palos Verdes, CA.  Not only are they both whip smart, but they're both funny, cute and genuinely kind people.

After shooting Julia and Joe's wedding at the Palos Verdes Country Club a few days before, I felt like I couldn't love my job any more.  But Carl and Lauren we're the whipped cream and cherry on the top of my perfect weekend sundae.  I feel so lucky to have the responsibility of capturing people's true love and chemistry and, when the couples are amazingly kind like Lauren and Carl, it just makes it all the better.

This lovely wedding was coordinated by Ida Gardner of Divine Event Planners, with flowers by Rolling Hills Flower Mart. The darling programs and invitations was designed and printed by Papeterie. The bride's gown and the bridesmaids' dresses were designed by Jenny Yoo. And lastly, super-sweet and uber-talented Nicole DeAnne did hair and makeup for this event.

And now to some pictures!

To Lauren and Carl: Mazeltov! Thank you for being you :)

delightfully,
Chenin

Janice and Ryan had a lovely ceremony at Chapman University Chapel in Orange,CA, followed by an intimate dinner for family and friends at Five Crowns in Corona Del Mar, CA. The whole day was filled with sweetness and the crazy chemistry between Janice and Ryan, who met, fell in love and got married all in a whirlwind of about a year! But there is no doubting that this gentle couple are truly meant for each other and it was an absolute delight to capture their wedding day. Here are some of my favorite images from their wedding -
