If you know me, you know I love the little things. And with all the time and effort my lovely clients and their fabulous event planners put in to choosing every last detail, I know how important it is to shoot those things. Dresses, shoes, rings and flowers.... they all make my heart sing. Here are my favorite detail and decor shots of 2009.

I love shooting engagement sessions and portraits because I feel a little less pressure and a lot more free to play and experiment. Last year, I got to shoot lots of couples in love, one fabulous photographer friend and an adorable family. Here are my favorite engagement and portrait photos from 2009 -

Well, it's official. I am a Nikon shooter (more on that later) and it was a real pleasure to break in the new gear at Melissa and Brett's engagement session last week. Poor Melissa and Brett sat in horrible traffic and almost didn't make it to their session, but we worked fast and managed to catch the last little bit of gorgeous sunlight. After the sun went down, we headed to a little tree I've admired for a while and set up a sweet little picnic-of-sorts for just a couple more shots. Here are some favorites from Melissa and Brett's engagement session -
To Melissa and Brett: Thanks for a wonderful afternoon! I am so looking forward to next July!

Chenin, I have been following your blog for about a year now, and I am continually inspired by your images! I almost passed out with excitement when I saw that you have switched to Nikon!!! My husband and I are Nikon wedding shooters, and we have recently started wondering if we should switch to Canon (since SO many pros are Canon shooters). BUT, now that your in the Nikon crew, I'm not even thinking about switching!:)
I cannot wait to hear about your reasoning behind the switch.
God Bless,

these are beautiful! nikon huh? you've got mad skills, and I'm sure regardless of what you use as your weapon of choice, you'll gracefully capture many magical moments. I'm looking forward to the "nikon" story. I actually shoot with both canon and nikon...I'm odd, I guess ;-)

Gooooo Nikon!!! Did you accidentally break all your Canon lenses? Isn't that what usually holds people back from switching? =)

Last week, I headed to Old Town Orange, CA to shoot an engagement session for the lovely Julie and Bill, who are having their wedding at Terranea Resort later this year. When Julie emailed me and asked if I could incorporate their darling dog, Bruce, and Bill's super-sexy Ducati motorcycle, I was pretty excited. I have to say, I have never been one for cars or motorcycles, but Bill's Ducati was beautiful! Of course, Julie and Bill aren't bad either...

A fun shot with Brucie (I love when couples ask me to include their dogs in their engagement sessions) -

I couldn't decide which of these photos I liked best, so here's all three! -

One more with the bike -

And a couple more portraits of Julie and Bill -

To Julie and Bill (and Bruce) - Thank for a lovely afternoon and the delicious lemonade :)

Chenin
