For a while now, I've been wanting to do a weekly blog feature on things that make me swoon.  Art, clothes, baby gear, recipes - anything that I love and want to share with my readers.  So, I woke up and decided today was as good a day as any!  So here goes nothin'!

Today, I want to share some artists whose work I love.  When Doug and I moved in to this house one year ago, I became painfully aware that all the art and photography in our home was our own.  Don't get me wrong, I love to display our work, but I wanted to diversify a bit.  Being that we aren't rich, I turned to Etsy to find affordable prints from talented, lesser-known artists.

First up is Sharon Montrose. I found her on etsy, fell in love and then suddenly started seeing her name everywhere.  She was recently mentioned in PDN and has been getting a ton of buzz.  I am most enamored with Sharon's simple images of rescue animals on white.

I finally bit the bullet and bought four of her smaller open-edition prints and framed them in our kitchen. These are 7x7 prints, surrounded by white double-weight mats and placed in 16x20 frames -

Sharon's websites are -

Animal Print Shop (for larger, limited-edition prints): http://www.theanimalprintshop.com/

After discovering Sharon, I stumbled upon Marisa Haedike, of Creative Thursday, who is a super-talented illustrator and painter.  She does an adorable series of painting featuring her own cast of animals, from polar bears and owls to bunnies and birds.  I was looking for something to hang in Max's room, which would be sweet and fun, without being too baby-ish.  I was completely twitterpated when I found Marisa's work.

This is an 11x14 print, framed as a 16x20.  It's right above Max's changing table and he seems to really enjoy looking at it while I dress him in the mornings.

Lastly, Doug and I just remodeled our bedroom and I was looking for something to hang above the bed. I, of course, turned again to Etsy.  I found a prolific toy-camera shooter from Montreal, named Bomobob.  I immediately fell in love with his graphic, vintagey images and simply had to have a few for the new bedroom.

These are 8x8 prints, framed and matted as 11x14s.

So that's it! My first edition of The Cat's Meow! Hope you enjoyed and will check out these talented artists.

I would love to hear your ideas for different features! If you have a request for future Cat's Meow features, leave 'em in the comment box below!

delightfully,
Chenin

I do very little matting and framing (clients do many more canvases) but I am looking for off-center square mats for a personal gift. (07.22.09 @ 08:50 AM)
