Hi blog followers! I am happy to report that our little Max has finally arrived! I know many of you have been anxiously awaiting photos and little a update on how our bundle is doing. Thanks for your patience as I settle in to Mommyhood.
Max was born at 1:20 am on Monday (2/16/09) morning. He was 8lbs, 3 oz and 19 inches long. He is perfect and healthy and divine. For those who are interested, my labor was very quick and smooth. I was taking a bath when my water broke at 7pm on Sunday night (leave it to me to find the tidiest and most efficient way to go into labor!) and, within 25 minutes, I was having contractions every 2 minutes and was 8 centimeters dilated (again, I'm terribly efficient.) After that, everything was very smooth and exactly as we wanted it. Our wonderful nurse, Pam, and my amazing husband, Doug, saw to it that I was comfy and happy and I had the most enjoyable labor a girl could ask for.

The next day -
Many of you are probably wondering how our first-born, Murray, is taking to his new brother. I was nervous to introduce the two and made sure that we came home with not only the baby, but a new toy for Murray, just to ease the transition a little bit. Murray spent about 2 seconds sniffing the baby and promptly moved on to playing with the new toy -
Yesterday, I finally had the time to do some proper portraits of Max. I don't fancy myself a baby photographer, but here are a couple of shots at 5 days old -
All and all, my pregnancy, birth and my little boy have been absolutely delightful. The universe has definitely blessed me. And, most of all, I have been so blessed by my incredible husband. There is a reason why it takes two people to make a baby; there is no way that I could get through my pregnancy, the labor and those midnight feedings without Doug. It's funny - we've worked on many, many projects together, from high school debate competitions to starting our own businesses; but it took *this* little project to really realize how absolutely indisposable he is to my life and my happiness. I am a very lucky duck.
On a more practical note, I am on maternity leave through the first of April, but will be checking emails and voicemails and trying to fit consultations in here and there. I appreciate everyone's patience as we make this transition. I will reward you with my very best photography efforts this coming season and lots and lots of photos of our new little boy :)

Congrats on that labor. Sounds perfect. LUCKY YOU! I am just finishing up my first year with my business AND baby and having a supporting, sweet, loving, and TIRELESS husband is a must! I'm glad mine is also so incredible. Way to go Doug. Take it easy. My advice to every new mom is to nap once a day with that baby until you feel better. They are only little babies once, so enjoy it. I took a nap everyday for MONTHS. Still do on my "days off." Every stage is temporary with babies/kids.

He is perfect! I had to laugh about your water breaking in the tub and how convenient that was. With my first pregnancy my water broke while I was using the bathroom...how's that for convenient! Be good to yourself. There is a reason they say it takes 6 weeks to get on your feet again and even then it isn't until the baby is 12-15 weeks do you find any shred of a schedule appearing. Double high fives for amazing husbands. Very happy for you guys, children only enrich this business and make you appreciate everything all over again.

Part one of my Labor Day Weekend double-header was Kelly and Fraser at one of my favorite venues - [seven degrees]. Kelly and Fraser live in NYC, so we didn't get to spend much time together before their Big Day, but we hit it off great and had a ball shooting around Laguna Canyon. It was a fabulous day and I have lots of images to share!

Ceremony time -
After the ceremony, I stole Kelly and Fraser away for a few minutes -
We were losing sun fast, so I hiked way back to this super-dirty parking lot to get the last little bit of light (thanks to Kelly and Fraser for trusting that I had a method to my madness!) -
[seven degrees] is a really cool venue/art gallery with some crazy light (but it makes for a nice challenge!) -
There's something about this first dance shot that I really love -

And a little detail of [seven degrees] at night -

Last night I met Melissa and Van for the first time and, boy, are they cute. They are so in love and genuine and I am really looking forward to their 700 person (!!) wedding in November. We wandered around The Montage and the beach below and I am really thrilled with the images I shot. Here ya go!

Earlier this week, I took the ferry over to Balboa to shoot Michele and David's engagement session. It was a gorgeous day and they are truly a sweet couple - a perfect combination!
When I asked Michele what she was looking for in their images, she said "color, color, color!" So I really played that up for them -
And a couple that are less colorful, but just as fun!
